Collection: Ivan Namarnyilk

They all paint with a similar style, very fine lines and very detailed and exacting. Ivan and his brothers belong to the Blaldja clan and their traditional country is Yiminji in West Arnhem Land.  

Their father was Spider Namirrki, a ceremonial man, artist and worker at Mudgenberri Station. That is where Ivan was born in 1972 and grew up. He learned his art from his uncle Jimmy Galareya.  

Ivan has been painting since the 1990s and is establishing himself as an artist of note. He almost always paints in the natural ochres that he collects and grinds himself.  The colours are outstanding.
