Pandanus grass weaving is a traditional practice amongst Daluk (Indigenous women) in Kakadu. First, Daluk gather pandanus leaves, stripping and preparing them. Then, using native berries, plants and flowers, the grass is dyed and hung in batches to dry. Through techniques passed down through thousands of years, the grass is intricately woven to create baskets, mats, or dilly bags.

Each piece reflects both the natural environment and the weaver's personal creativity and cultural heritage. The process embodies a connection to country and ancestors, fostering community bonds and preserving Indigenous knowledge and identity. This craft not only produces functional items but also serves as a form of storytelling and cultural expression.
