Unknown Artist
This hand-painted Lorrkon is a traditional ceremonial coffin log. The trunk is hollowed out by termites, then collected and painted by Bininj (Indigenous) artists of Kakadu and Arnhem Land, Australia. The Lorrkon plays a significant role in the deep traditional practice of mortuary rituals, where deceased clan members bones are placed inside the hollow trunk.
