Collection: David Cameron

David Cameron is a Kunwinjku artist who is currently based in Mudginberri, Kakadu. He was born in Maningrida, East Arnhem Land, where his father's family come from. His mother's family are from Kakadu.

David was taught to paint by his father and uncles at a young age. He is now carrying on the family tradition and art styles to his own sons; Jarius and Darius. He takes a lot of pride in his works and usually takes a couple of days to complete each piece. Examples of David's work can be seen in "Images in Ochre - The Art & Craft of the 'Kunwinjku'" by Adrian Parker. David paints with 'grass' - the stem of the freshwater reed that has many fibres inside. These are prepared to the thickness required for his Skin Group. The thickness of the lines and the way they are applied are very important - besides Skin, they tell the Clan and Country of the artist.

David is known to primarily paint the various fish species and animal life of his homelands. He is a quiet person who values his community and the traditional ways of his ancestors.
